Molasses Tanks
Molasses is commonly used to supplement dry feed in farming environments. Easy to store, highly cost efficient (per unit of energy), nutrient rich, and very palatable to encourage livestock. It is also used for human consumption in food production and brewing.
Tank options
The increased specific gravity of molasses means an engineered storage tank is required with appropriate fittings. We commonly supply farms with two styles of tank up to 35000 litres. The raw material we use is food grade approved, so as well as being solid structurally these tanks are perfect for food production environments too.
- Classic: External appearance much like an above ground water tank. Engineered specifically for molasses storage. To order, please see our Industrial Tanks page, click on the appropriate Drawing for Markup and note the use 'Molasses' on the form. The completed form can be discussed with your reseller when ordering.
- Cone: Conical base drains molasses to a central outlet. Cone tank stands are available to suit: these provide clear access to the outlet as well as full support for the cone. To order tanks and stands, please see our Cone Tanks page, click on the appropriate Drawing for Markup and note the use 'Molasses' on the form. The completed form can be discussed with your reseller when ordering.
Specific gravity of molasses
Being a much denser liquid than water, molasses requires a specially engineered tank. To explain why this is important, the mass of water is about 1 kilogram per 1 litre. This gives a specific gravity of '1'. By comparison, molasses per litre weighs between 1.4kg (Molasses A first) and 1.5kg (undiluted Blackstrap) - a specific gravity of up to 1.5.
Water tanks are engineered for the specific gravity of water. Because molasses has a much greater mass, storage tanks for this liquid must be specially engineered.
